Montana Candidate Refunds Donations from Children
Kudos to Montana gubernatorial candidate Pat Davidson who has refunded some $9000 in contributions he received from minors. According to this story in the Independent Record, Davidson initially made the mistake of practically inviting donors to circumvent Montana's $400 contribution limit by noting in his solicitation that spouses and children could each give $400. But, Montana law requires that children must provide their own funds for a contribution, not just pass along money that mommy or daddy gives them to then give a politician. When questioned about this practice by a competitor, Davidson decided it would be better to just give the money back. Good for him, but too bad he didn't think better of it before hand.
