Rendell Rolls the Dice on Gambling Donations

As John Sullivan reports in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell has been raising money from casinos for the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), despite a Pennsylvania law prohibiting contributions from the gambling industry or its executives to candidates.

With Rendell's help, the DGA has raised some $1.1 million from the gambling industry, which in turn has given Rendell some $482,000.

Rendell's actions are arguably within the law, but coming from a governor who helped push for the introduction of some 61,000 slot machines into Pennsylvania, they sure call into question whether Rendell is representing the people of Pennsylvania or the gambling interests that indirectly put half a million bucks in his campaign account.
