Citizen Groups Work For Better Elections

A panel of experts and politicians met today to examine and discuss what went right and wrong in the 2004 elections. The panel explored the issues of:

* Absentee Ballots, Military and Overseas Voting
* Provisional Ballots
* Polling Place Operations and Poll Workers
* Voting Machines
* Voter Registration
* Voter Suppression and Intimidation

The meeting was moderated by the executive directors of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and Common Cause. Attending were experts on the above issues from many citizen groups, including the National Voting Rights Institute, Demos, the Brennan Center for Justice, the ACLU, and the NAACP. Several congressional representatives also were to attend today's meeting in Washington D.C., including Senator Mitch McConnell and Representatives Steny Hoyer, Bob Ney, and Rush Holt.
