As Ken Herman of Cox News Service reports, this week presidential adviser Karl Rove charged that wealthy Democrat donors who gave millions to 527 organizations during the recent campaign were trying to derail democracy.
According to a Washington Post study, 80% of the donations to Democrat-leaning 527s came in donations of $250,000 or more, and 90% of the donations to Republican-leaning 527s came in donations of $250,000 or more.
So, Rove is half-right. Super-rich Democrats and Republicans are trying to derail our democracy.
Not that it takes $250,000 to distort democracy. By doubling the contribution limits to candidates to $2,000 an election and increasing the limit on aggregate contributions by a person to $95,000 every two years, Congress is doing its part to derail our democracy too.
