Senator Reid Gives $1,000,000 of Other People's Money Away

Senator Reid of Nevada is sitting pretty on top of a $7.8 million warchest for his re-election campaign, eighteen times greater than the funds raised by his challenger, Richard Ziser. As an AP story in the San Francisco Chronicle reports, Reid has spent only slightly more than $3 million of those funds, enabling him to give some $1 million to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Whether or not Reid is using the million dollar gift to his colleagues to position himself for a run for a leadership position amongst Senate Democrats (a possibility), it doesn't seem kosher for him to give away the money that people entrusted to him for a specific purpose - - to run for re-election to the Senate.
